Haiti Hit with Another Earthquake

The struggles of Haiti remain as a it was hit with a 5.9 Earthquake on October 6, 2018 that rattled the fragile healthcare system.  An AP story highlight the tragic reality.

“Hospitals in Haiti's northwestern city of Port-de-Paix are labouring to cope with the fallout from an earthquake and strong aftershocks which killed at least 12 people. The city, which is about 219km from the capital, Port-au-Prince, was hardest hit by Saturday's quake, which authorities say injured 188 people. At the Immaculate Conception Hospital, doctors and nurses lack the supplies they need to treat those wounded by the magnitude 5.9 quake and efforts are further frustrated by electricity outages and damage to the hospital building.”

Now that Haiti has fallen almost completely out of the news cycle, the flow of donations, as many feared, has slowed to a trickle.  Haiti needs your help. The international aid community knew that the challenges of Haiti would require decades of effort, as an already impoverished society and dysfunctional political system is not solved with short term solutions.  VIDA continues to aid Haiti through the equipping of medical missions travelling to the country.  They bring much needed care and compassion to people in need.  We ask for your continued support.  VIDA can equip a single medical team with up to $50,000 in aid with little shipping expense. A $500 donation completely outfits a team that will treat hundreds of patients who have been denied access to healthcare for decades.  We thank you for your support and helping VIDA remain a viable reality in the lives of so many people in need.
