This project will provide mental health services and programming to teen girls within low-income schools throughout the state of Texas. Implementing mental health & wellness programs in schools, helps children learn how to manage stress effectively, while decreasing depression and increasing confidence. Our mission is to create an environment of life long learners who achieve their maximum potential to participate and contribute to a democratic society, while decreasing delinquency.
Although anxiety and depression occur among both genders, by teenage years, girls are much more at risk than boys. *1 in 10 children experience mental health issues. *3.2% of children age 3-17 years have diagnosed depression. *Approximately 13% of children aged 8-15 experiences a severe mental disorder at some point during their life. *More than 90% of peoplewho die by suicide show symptoms ofa mental health condition.
By implementing mental health & wellness programs in schools, will help children learn how to manage stress effectively, while decreasing depression and increasing confidence.
This project will educate at least 1000 teen girls per low-income school district. With this education and providing mental health services, will allow these teen girls to arise out of poverty, build confidence and increase college enrollment. This will then provide community economic development to decrease poverty and increase many families' health and well-being.
