I Have a Dream is a New Zealand charity dedicated to inspiring dreams and enabling futures for young people through education and access to opportunities. Programme participants (Dreamers) receive support from dedicated Navigators from their first day at school until they transition into tertiary studies or employment pathways. The aim of this project is to secure donor support to fund programme and activity costs, ensuring every child has the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
Too many New Zealand children face barriers that prevent them from fully engaging in education and discovering their potential. Without consistent, long-term support, they risk falling behind in literacy and numeracy, missing out on enrichment opportunities, and struggling to find clear pathways into further education, training, or employment.
I Have a Dream Navigators partner with schools, whanau, and communities to provide longterm support, strengthening literacy, numeracy, and confidence through enrichment opportunities. Donor support funds this work, keeping Dreamers engaged in education or helping them reengage, and enables I Have a Dream to extend these opportunities to more young people across schools and communities.
The long-term I Have a Dream model instills enduring values such as education, resilience, aspiration, and community involvement. Currently operating in four partner schools in Whangarei and one in Upper Hutt, the charity aims to enroll 50,000 Dreamers across New Zealand by 2050. Every $1 invested generates $3.60 in social value, empowering Dreamers to become thriving contributors to their whanau, communities, and wider society.
