Navigating to a Brighter Future

By Catherine Baker | Navigating to a Brighter Future

Kia Ora (hello)

The recent months at I Have a Dream have been ones of growth and momentum as we expand our team to better support our Dreamers and strengthen our impact. From celebrating kindness on Pink Shirt Day and raising awareness during Road Safety Week, to honouring our incredible volunteers and preparing for Matariki, we've been proud to stand alongside our community.

We hope you enjoy reading the stories below about the inspiring mahi from across the term and we're excited to share our 2024 Annual Report and Audited Accounts, a reflection of the progress we've made together.

Nga mihi nui (thank you so much)

Dreamers are loving the after school programmes run by WithIN NATURE where they are empowered to thrive in a natural environment, are learning practical life skills like cooking, gardening, and carpentry, while fostering strong connections to whenua and hauora.

From Giving Back to Gifting
From Giving back to gifting

Two UK doctors who volunteered for I Have a Dream while working in Whangarei, were so moved by their experience that they're generously asking guests at their July wedding in Scotland to donate to I Have a Dream in lieu of gifts.

Dannyrei - volunteering at freediving
After a decade of support through the I Have a Dream programme, former Dreamer Dannyrei has returned to the whanau, this time as a volunteer equipped with the skills and tools she gained along the way. She recently shared with us what she remembers fondly from her time at I Have a Dream and what she loves about spending time with current Dreamers.

A creative dream realised
Dreamers at Jessie Rose
Each term 10 ten lucky Dreamers attend a private art class with local artist and Dream Partner Jessie Rose. The time they spend in this creative space has proven to offer more than art skills, it has helped them build confidence, connection and pride.
