Rebuilding Alliance invites you to join a Zoom walk-through of the Jubb Al Dhib School & Village in the West Bank’s Area C, near Bethlehem. We’ll have Congressional staff on the line, and we’ll be asking them to intervene to safeguard this school, facing imminent demolition by May 7th.

Congressional intervention may be one of the only remaining ways left to save the school. Please send this letter to your Senators and Representatives and urge them to take action. Please customize it, and ask them to attend this walk-through. Then, register to join us on Wednesday, to meet with the Jubb Al Dhib Women’s Association, parents, and students of the school, as they show us what makes this place so special- and learn how you can help keep it standing. Below are the details:

  • Wednesday, May 3rd, 9:30-10:30 am EDT
The Israeli High Court removed injunction against demolition and referred to the District Court decision that the Jubb Al Dhib School should be demolished before May 7th- we're asking your help to keep it standing
  • Congressional staff are invited to join

In the last 4 weeks, Rebuilding Alliance has met with 38 offices, Senate and House, Republican and Democrat, asking them to intervene by making two calls: one to the U.S. State Department and one to the Israeli Embassy, to keep this school standing. The school, built in 2017, serves 40 students in grades 1-4. Having a quality local school is critical for this community that faces pressure and harassment from settlers and the Army:

  • The school, built on privately owned Palestinian land, was demolished in August of 2017 before the start of the school year. The children attended school in tents the first day, and the parents rebuilt the school overnight to ensure the children’s education continued

  • It has had demolition orders since it was rebuilt. Diplomatic engagement, including by the U.S. State Department, has helped keep it standing, and there has been an injunction in place- until now. Intervention from Congress may be one of the only remaining ways to keep the school standing

  • The injunction was removed in March because a far-right, pro-settler Israeli NGO, Regavim, a group with no standing in the village, filed a lawsuit against the Israeli Army to demolish the school- and they won
  • What makes this situation more disturbing is that the founder of Regavim, Minister Smotrich (the Israeli Finance Minister) was recently made an ‘Additional Minister’ in the Defense Ministry. This position effectively makes him the head of the Israeli Civil Administration, giving him the power to demolish this school that the organization he founded wants demolished. This is a huge conflict of interest

Please feel free to reach out to our team with any questions you may have, and please send your letter to Congress now, then register here for the Zoom call on Wednesday, May 3rd.

We look forward to seeing you.

Sincerely,

Donna and Matthew
