Climate Justice

DAN

  • DAN represented young individuals during three lawsuits against the government due to the lack of compliance with general law on climate change and requested that a policy be implemented to mitigate greenhouse gas and compound emissions, thus complying with the Paris Climate Agreement. Link to national news coverage here.
  • For the first time in Mexico, three young individuals obliged the three levels of government (municipal, state, and federal) demanding climate justice to represent present and future generations.
  • DAN held eight workshops educating youth and their families on climate change and informing them on legal processes and lawsuits. In response, more than 50% of participants took legal action in favor of environmental conservation by joining in on the efforts to demand the Mexican Government the right to protect climate systems that will benefit present and future generations.
  • DAN created a podcast on Spotify called Voices for “Cabo del Este” featuring an episode on community participation in the Local Ecological Planning Program.
  • DAN performed eight investigations on climate change, the Vaquita marina (a marine mammal that is nearly extinct), environmental impact assessments on public participation, legal implications on the ZOFEMAT reform, ecological planning, natural gas projects, and mining projects.

 

CEMDA

  • In March 2021, CEMDA held a virtual workshop on the right of access to public information and the protection of personal data (transparency) at the national level.
  • Distributed 20 audiovisual materials for social networks resulting in 197 publications on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, having a reach of 341,283 users.
  • In January 2021, CEMDA filed an amparo lawsuit against the SEMARNAT, for having authorized eight projects in the Cabo del Este region without evaluating the impacts that will cause the region's ecosystems.

BCSicletos Colectivo de Ciclismo Urbano A.C.

  • Through the work of citizen participation and incidence in the decision-making process of the City of La Paz, the installation of the first stage of the Colima-Jalisco cycling road pair was achieved, so that the Cyclist Mobility Network has more than 5 new km of bike path.
  • The construction of El Manglito Park 
  • Conducted 52 air quality monitoring tours.
  • Published a semi-annual report of the results of the air quality monitoring.

CERCA

  • CERCA produced technical studies in energy and air such as the Diagnosis of Energy and Air Quality 2021 and the Air Quality Climate Justice Report.
  • 6 citizen participation groups were created to implement a legal strategy to promote the energy transition in BCS
  1. Paceños in the Public Defender of the air is interested in the impact of air pollution in the cityof La Paz
  2. South Californians for the Energy Transition - GreenPeace made up of people from different municipalities dissatisfied with CFE's refusal to provide solutions with clean, renewable and affordable energy generation.
  3. San Carlos Limpio: Small group of 11 active citizens with leadership, in the environmental fight to defend your right to clean air against plants that operate in the San Carlos BCS area, and that seek to influence the law to improve the quality of its environment.
  4. Youth in Climate Action Citizen group of 60 young people who work in virtual and face-to-face modality to receive empowerment trainings on the impacts of climate change in the state
  1. The BCS Climate Action group is a legal action group made up of 24
    young people of legal age formed to sue the different levels of government for infringing on the right to a healthy environment.
  2. The Action group for a Future to 2050: This legal action group is composed of by minors represented by their fathers and mothers

        5. Environmental Choyeros: Is a 672-member digital environmental community, whichsupports                the positioning and dissemination and visualization of the energy transition in BCS.

        6. Energy Transition: This is a digital group made up of 22 members of the area
          interested in the energy transition in BCS This virtual community was created withthe purpose              of sharing opinions and perspectives on electricity generation in BCS and to monitor the                        current electrical system.
