Soledad is a family-scale agroecological garden producer from Santa Ana, a rural community located in the south west of Tucumán province. She is 36 years old and lives with her parents, brother and her 12-year-old daughter.
The knowledge of horticultural production is a familiar knowledge, transmitted from generation to generation, from her bolivian parents who settled in Santa Ana many years ago. Her family has an informal stall in a central street in town, where they offer their products. They also participate in the local Fair on Sundays, which also allows them to sell their vegetables and obtain an economic income to support the family.
Soledad is an example of hard work and perseverance. Despite the difficulties, in addition to supporting the family garden, the young woman is working in a small local factory. She also does small private sewing jobs for neighbors in the area. Currently the family prepares ground chili as an artisanal condiment.
Soledad met Acdi through Erika, a Tucumán territorial promoter. Since August, she has installed the Kokue mobile application on her phone, and receives support to learn more about the use of it, as well as about agroecological practices. They had special success in the family garden thanks to the use of biopreparations for pest control, available in the app, being able to put aside the use of pesticides.
With the accompaniment of ACDI, Soledad and her family now have an increased and diversified production. The Kokue app offers them the necessary tools to know how to associate crops, and how to use the soil in the most efficient way possible. In addition, Soledad expresses her interest in continuing to learn, since she would like to acquire knowledge about the ways to add value to the production of the garden. ACDI is part of her history, with the accompaniment of Soledad and her family, promoting the agroecological garden and the development of their family economy projects.
