Summary

Every year 2.6 million babies die in the first 28 days of life, most in the first week, 75% of these deaths can be prevented with high quality care. Impact Health Uganda plans to train and provide medical supplies for over 750 medical students and providers in the Western Region of Uganda. By impacting these providers with fulfilling their educational and training needs we can begin to lower the infant and maternal mortality rate.

Challenge

Western Uganda has a limited infrastructure in health care institutions and training opportunities as they lack the resources to provide efficient clinical education and care. Ugandans often have to travel 50 plus miles to obtain their basic and specialized health care needs, like maternal and child health, sexual health, Malaria, HIV and Tuberculosis care.

Solution

The Curiosity Project has partnered with FINS Medical University Teaching Hospital. They are a local hospital and training institute that has recently completed construction and is in the final stage of procurement and aims to provide the highest level of quality care. This hospital will serve the community and provide the students of the university with practical application training.

Long-Term Impact

We will train 750 students and provide the necessary equipment and supplies needed to train and provide quality care. FINS aspires to become a center for quality medical education & research in the region, producing medical students that are highly skilled, ethical and competitive globally. This would create the first specialized medical university in Uganda. This will provide supplies and training so the medical providers may continue to train students.
