A look at the year ahead

By Charles Coldman | Director

We step into 2024 - our seventeenth year as a charity - with much to look forward to.

For the first time since the onset of the Covid pandemic in 2020, the school calendar in Kenya will revert to its traditional duration and schedule, with 36 weeks of term-time spread across the year from this week until the end of October.

We anticipate that this will finally be the year when the now 4+ year redevelopment of our eighth partner school at Mkamenyi Primary reaches its conclusion. Children are returning this week to freshly painted classrooms with this work having been undertaken in their absence over the last two months.

We will continue the roll-out of our farm-to-fork programme by supporting the introduction of a kitchen garden space at at least one further school, as well as by supporting the continued development and evolution of the spaces started in 2023 at our two smallest partner schools (by pupil roll), Ngambenyi Primary and Kiteghe Primary.

Our priority will remain to ensure that our partner schools have the means to provide a daily lunchtime meal to all their pupils; thanks to prudent management of our resources over the last couple of years we start the year reassured by the knowledge that this will be possible for another year!

We look forward to bringing you news and updates throughout the year but for now take this opportunity to wish you good health and happiness for the year ahead.

As ever, if you have any comments or questions about any aspect of our work please do not hesitate to get in touch.
