I - MID-TERM TECHNICAL REPORT OF THE DRILLING PROJECT IN SAGBADAÏ
(FROM THE LAUNCH OF THE PROJECT TO THE ANALYSIS OF THE DRILLING WATER)
INTRODUCTION
The project “Improving access to water for the Sagbadaï community in the Tchaoudjo prefecture ” began with the awareness-raising stage of this community on August 1, 2024. It is implemented by the NGO CAV with the financial support of the COCHRAN Family based in the USA through GlobalGiving .
This report summarizes all activities carried out from August 1 to September 24, 2024.
The following activities were carried out during this period:
- Raising awareness among the population about the project and setting up drilling sites ;
- Carrying out geophysical studies;
- Drilling wells;
- Water pumping and analysis
- Monitoring of project activities.
PROGRESS OF ACTIVITIES
1. Raising awareness among the population about the project and establishing drilling sites:
The awareness-raising took place on August 1, 2024 in favor of the Sagbadaï community with the participation of the project team including the Coordinator and the Accountant of the NGO, the Director of the drilling company and the quality controller
During this awareness-raising session, the beneficiaries were provided with information on their responsibilities to now take charge of the management and maintenance of the works to be built.
An area of at least a quarter of a hectare has been selected by the community for geophysical studies.
2. Geophysical studies:
Geophysical studies were carried out on August 27, 2024. These studies revealed the existence of abundant water tables at a depth of approximately 60 meters.
3. Drilling, Development and Equipment of Drilling
The drilling works were successfully completed on August 29, 2024 at the chosen site.
4. Pumping and physicochemical and microbiological analyses of borehole water:
The pumping of the boreholes was carried out two (2) weeks after the drilling stage. It took place on September 12, 2024 and consisted of:
- Measure the flow rate of the borehole;
- Determine the variation in its production at different flow rates;
- Quantify aquifer characteristics, including permeability coefficient and water storage capacity.
At the end of the pumping, water samples were taken for physicochemical and bacteriological analyses at the laboratory, at the Regional Directorate of Hygiene and Sanitation. The analyses were carried out from September 12 to 17, 2024.
The results of the analyses were therefore deemed satisfactory and fully meet WHO (World Health Organization) standards.
5. Coordination and monitoring of project activities.
Follow-ups were carried out by the project team. This team is composed of the Coordinator, the Accountant and the Cashier of the NGO. Monitoring tours of the drilling work were organized during the geophysical studies, drilling and water pumping work. Telephone, email and Whatsapp contacts were exchanged between the project team, the company and the person responsible for technical monitoring of the project.
II - NEXT STEPS:
The activities to be carried out from September 26, 2024 are as follows:
- Supply of equipment and installation of mechanical feed systems (Construction of the drilling superstructure).
- Support for the establishment of the Water Committee, responsible for monitoring and managing drilling;
- Training of Water Committees on the maintenance and sustainable management of boreholes;
- Technical and provisional reception of works;
- Final acceptance of works;
- Monitoring and supervision of project activities.
