I - FINAL TECHNIQUE REPORT OF THE DRILLING PROJECT IN SAGBADAÏ

INTRODUCTION

The project “Improving access to water for the Sagbadaï community in the Tchaoudjo prefecture” began with the awareness-raising stage of this community on August 1, 2024. It is implemented by the NGO CAV with the financial support of the COCHRAN Family based in the USA through GlobalGiving.

This report summarizes all the activities carried out within the framework of the said project.

The following activities were carried out during the implementation of the said project:

-       Raising awareness among the population about the project and setting up drilling sites ;

-       Carrying out geophysical studies;

-       Drilling wells;

-       Water pumping and analysis;

-       Construction of the drilling superstructure;

-       Installation of the mechanical pump;

-       Monitoring of project activities.

PROGRESS OF ACTIVITIES

1. Raising awareness among the population about the project and establishing drilling sites:

The awareness-raising took place on August 1, 2024 in favor of the Sagbadaï community with the participation of the project team including the Coordinator and the Accountant of the NGO, the Director of the drilling company and the quality controller

During this awareness-raising session, the beneficiaries were provided with information on their responsibilities to now take charge of the management and maintenance of the works to be built.

An area of at least a quarter of a hectare has been selected by the community for geophysical studies.

2. Geophysical studies:

Geophysical studies were carried out on August 27, 2024. These studies revealed the existence of abundant water tables at an average depth of approximately 60 meters and a maximum depth of 90 meters. The site has the following coordinates: Longitude: 1.063242°, Latitude: 9.075943° and Altitude: 356.22

3. Drilling, Development and Equipment of Drilling

The drilling works were successfully completed on August 29, 2024 on the chosen site.

4. Pumping and physicochemical and microbiological analyses of borehole water:

The pumping of the boreholes was carried out two (2) weeks after the drilling stage. It took place on September 12, 2024 and consisted of:

ü  Measure the flow rate of the borehole;

ü  Determine the variation in its production at different flow rates;

ü  Quantify aquifer characteristics, including permeability coefficient and water storage capacity.

At the end of the pumping, water samples were taken for physicochemical and bacteriological analyses at the laboratory, at the Regional Directorate of Hygiene and Sanitation. The analyses were carried out from September 12 to 17, 2024.

The results of the analyses were therefore deemed satisfactory and fully meet WHO (World Health Organization) standards.

5. Construction of the drilling superstructure:

The activities to be carried out from September 26, 2024 have begun with the construction work of the drilling carried out from October 5 to 10, 2024.

The superstructure is composed of the coping, the hedgehog slab, the anti-quag, the fence of the lost well, the channel and decanter, all made according to the rules of the art and the recommendations of the quality controller.

6. Supply of equipment and installation of mechanical power supply systems:

The equipment of the mechanical feeding system was received on October 24, 2024 at the headquarters of the NGO CAV. These consisted of 10 stainless steel pipes, 10 stainless steel triangles, 1 stainless steel cylinder, 1 head, 1 frame and 1 spillway. This equipment or human-powered pump of the INDIA brand was installed on October 24, 2024 in the presence of the technical team of the NGO CAV including its Coordinator.

7. Technical and provisional reception of works:

The provisional technical reception of the work took place on November 1, 2024from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the presence of local authorities, the beneficiary community, and the Water Committee. The GOOD LUCK company took part in the technical and provisional reception ceremonies.

In turn, the project team, local authorities and the Quality Control Officer of the works took the floor to provide advice to the populations for the proper use and management of the works carried out. The populations through the local authorities and the village development committee expressed their thanks to the COCHRAN Family for its financial contribution.

Several testimonies, especially those of women, were reported on the problems of access to water that they had before having a drinking water point today and in all seasons. They expressed to the NGO CAV and the COCHRAN Family their gratitude and reassured them that they will correctly use the facilities made available to them.

8. Coordination and monitoring of project activities.

Follow-ups were carried out by the project team. This team is composed of the Coordinator and the NGO. Monitoring tours of the drilling work were organized during the geophysical studies, drilling work, water pumping, during the construction of the superstructure. Telephone, email and Whatsapp contacts were exchanged between the project team, the company and the person responsible for technical monitoring of the project.
