Updates from Mayanza in Santiago

By Jami Smith | Founder and CEO

Our team embarked on a meaningful journey back to Santiago last week, reuniting with our dedicated health educators for the biannual health screening of over 700 school children. The vibrant atmosphere of laughter and excitement enveloped us as we engaged with children ranging from pre-school to 6th grade throughout the week.

Adding to our enthusiasm, we forged a new partnership with a school in the rural outskirts of Chacaya, home to a community of coffee farmers with limited access to healthcare. This marked our 5th school collaboration in the area, reflecting our commitment to reaching underserved communities.

Our time in the schools was dedicated to monitoring growth by measuring height and weight, administering antiparasite medication, and screening for anemia. Though our trip data is still undergoing analysis, early indications suggest a positive trend – a decrease in the prevalence of anemia among these schoolchildren.

Witnessing the health improvements in these children over time fills us with immense joy and purpose. The warm reception from cheerful children at each school further fuels our determination to make a lasting impact on their well-being.

Looking ahead, our team is already planning our return to Santiago in August. We invite you to join us in supporting our ongoing efforts to make a difference in the lives of these resilient communities. Your contribution can play a crucial role in fostering the health and happiness of the children we serve.
