Summary

KCDF wishes to support a group of children living with cerebral palsy condition by reducing the distance they have to travel to visit the main clinic at Donholn Nairobi for therapy. There is need for 3 satellite therapy clinics to be set up in strategic peri-urban locations in Nairobi to ease the burden of transport for mothers who carry their children on their backs in public service vehicles which are not disability friendly. 30,0000 USD is required to purchase equipment for these clinics.

Challenge

Children with cerebral palsy condition in Kenya face lots of stigma. There is only one center for physiotherapy for these children in Nairobi.Mothers track long distances carrying them on their backs to the main centre in Donholm for physiotherapy. We need three satelite clinics in the outskirts of the city to reduce the distance the mothers walk. Public transport for these children is very unfriendly. The clinics will reduce fatigue and stress for them. Main centre is already overcrowded too.

Solution

Many children with cerebral palsy condition will attend clinics for physiotherapy as required because they are within reach.More mothers who have these children will be motivated to take them to the clinics because they are nearer than before. Lives of these special children will be prolonged and improved. Congestion in the main clinic will be reduced. Cerebral Palsy children will get more quality time with the physiotherapists and get better attention. More support will come from new donors.

Long-Term Impact

Most children with Cerebral Palsy will learn how to walk, talk, move their limbs and others will even know how to work and make their money. Most children will not be left at home tied on trees or locked in houses as they can be dropped at the satelite clinic. Many parents will be able to take their sick children for clinic as well as get time to attend to other family issues and the other children. These special children lives will be prolonged as well as live happier lives with less pain.
