This project aims at inclusion of youth with disabilities in higher education in Uganda through formation and strengthening university students associations, creating awareness among university administration and developing a policy on students with disability.
Many students with disabilities in institutions of higher education face numerous barriers relating to attitudes of University authorities and fellow students, unsafe and inaccessible learning environment, inadequate teaching methods and equipment or aids, inability to access information, and inadequate participation in various programs including sports and recreation. Many of the students cannot therefore achieve quality learning as expected. Moreover there is no framework in place to follow.
By developing and strengthening associations of students with disabilities, conduct training for students with disabilities, work with university administration, develop a policy on students with disabilities, establish a disability support centre.
Ultimately, this will improve access to the learning for students with disabilities and the attainment of quality higher education for students within the institutions of higher learning. Specifically, we shall engage with:
