Amar Seva Sangam empowers individuals with disabilities in southern Tamil Nadu, India. Our inclusive school educates over 715 students, including those with physical and mental challenges. We adapt the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of learners in education. We assess children's skill levels at different ages, namely Preparedness (by 6 years), Academic 1 (7 to 10 years), and Academic 2 (11 to 14 years). We believe in inclusive education and provide equal learning opportunities for all kids
Our School is providing a high-quality education in an inclusive environment where there are no barriers between physically abled and disabled students. However, inclusive education faces challenges such as attitudinal barriers to working with disabled children, lack of proven approaches, conventional teaching methods, limited collaboration between special and regular teachers, accessibility and classroom adaptations, and a lack of awareness of teaching strategies for different disabilities.
We work towards inclusive education for all, including traditionally excluded groups. We assess skill levels and have developed an approach for curriculum followers, adapted and substitute curriculum followers. We provide curriculum adaptations, co-teaching strategies, and training for teachers, parents, and caregivers. Monthly reviews and worksheets track progress, while accessibility, peer group trainings, and teaching materials support our inclusive education goals.
We provide inclusive education to children with disabilities to help them integrate well with others. We also cater to the rural poor and charge nominal fees for their children. School enrollment is increasing every year, and we expect school attendance to be 80%. So far, 2075 students have received high-quality education, and many have moved on to higher education and employment. Our goal is to enroll and benefit almost all children from rural poor backgrounds and/or those with disabilities.
