The project aims at enhancing access to finance for entrepreneurship development among persons with disabilities in Uganda through an Inclusive Savings and Credit Cooperative. The beneficiaries who are a combination of both persons with disabilities and the vulnerable non-disabled counterparts will access affordable credit facilities by borrowing and returning the borrowed funds at a subsidized interest rate so that other members also access the service for sustainability of the project.
Persons with Disabilities and other vulnerable non-disabled counterparts find it difficult to access finance for them to support their various entrepreneurship engagements. Due to lack of collateral and and other sources of income they are also discriminated from access to mainstream credit facilities and this hinders them from actively participating in economic development and makes them more vulnerable.
The project will make finances available to ease access to cheap and/or affordable credit facilities for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable non-disabled counterparts in the effort to make them more enterprising, increase their participation in economic development as well as improve on their socioeconomic well-being and self sustainability
The project will support more than 500 persons with disability and other vulnerable non disabled counterparts overcome discrimination in accessing financial and credit services, improve on their livelihoods and independence and engage more in development of their society through entrepreneurship engagements.
