We are honored to share with you the ongoing progress of a deeply impactful initiative led by the Customs Health Care Society (CHCS)—a program designed to empower vulnerable women in Tharparkar, Sindh, through sustainable income generation and improved nutrition.

Tharparkar is one of the most remote and underserved regions of Pakistan, where poverty, malnutrition, and lack of resources have long plagued the lives of its inhabitants—especially women and children. Isolated from economic opportunities and essential healthcare, many women here suffer from chronic malnourishment and physical weakness. These health challenges often lead to the birth of undernourished children, many of whom face life-threatening diseases due to insufficient nutrition and limited medical care.

A Lifeline Through Livestock

In response to this urgent need, CHCS launched an innovative Income Generation Scheme that places the tools for self-reliance directly in the hands of local women. At the core of this initiative is the provision of goats—a simple yet powerful asset that has proven to be a game-changer in these women’s lives.

Goats provide a steady supply of nutritious milk, essential for the health of both mothers and their children. More than just a food source, goats represent an opportunity for women to generate income by breeding and selling offspring, typically twice a year. This creates a cycle of sustainability, allowing women not only to support their families but to build small-scale livelihoods with dignity and independence.

Challenges and Determination

Despite the clear impact of this project, it has unfortunately not received the international attention and funding it deserves. Still, CHCS remains unwavering in its commitment, with operations primarily supported through the generous contributions of our local donors. Their belief in the transformative power of this initiative has kept it alive, and we are determined to build on that foundation.

As we move into 2025, CHCS is determined to scale this initiative, with the goal of reaching hundreds more families who are waiting for this chance at a better future. Each goat we provide is not just livestock—it is a symbol of opportunity, strength, and renewal.
