Glaring Water Need
Glaring Water Need

With hearts full of appreciation, we extend our deepest gratitude to you for walking faithfully alongside The NGAO Foundation for several years in support of our WASH Program, because of your compassion, trust, and unwavering dedication, communities that once faced daily uncertainty in accessing clean water are now witnessing real, life-changing transformation. Simply put — you are our heroes. These milestones would not have been possible without you.

Introduction

The Ngao Foundation’s WASH Program continues to lead efforts in advancing public health and sustainable development by expanding access to clean and safe drinking water for communities across Kenya.

Through structured, community-driven initiatives, we empower children, youth, and women with the skills, resources, and knowledge needed to live healthier, more dignified lives.

This quarter reflects meaningful progress toward achieving long-term water security in Oloishorua and its surrounding communities.

Key Activities

1. Oloishorua Borehole Drilling Project

What was once a pressing community need is now steadily becoming a life-changing reality. The successful drilling of the borehole marks a major milestone toward ensuring sustainable water access for children, families, livestock, and local institutions, including schools.

The availability of sufficient water presents transformative potential — not only for current residents but also for future generations.

Phase One has been successfully initiated. However, to ensure full functionality and long-term sustainability, we are mobilizing support to complete the following:

  • Installation of a solar-powered pumping system
  • Construction of a water storage tower
  • Establishment of distribution points to serve the community equitably
  • Installation of a designated water filtration machine

These next steps are critical in transitioning from water access to a reliable and sustainable supply of clean, safe water.

2. Water Filtration Machine Maintenance

Routine monitoring of our water filtration system identified discoloration in cartridge filters, which had begun turning greenish, an indicator that replacement was necessary.

A qualified water technician promptly replaced the filters to maintain high water quality standards. This proactive maintenance ensures continued access to safe drinking water and prevents potential health risks associated with compromised filtration systems.

3. Water Sample Analysis

Water samples collected from the Oloishorua borehole underwent comprehensive laboratory testing. We are pleased to report that the results were very positive.

The water passed several key quality parameters that typically pose risks to human health, reinforcing the viability of the borehole as a sustainable and safe water source for the community.

4. Community Engagement at Osupuko Primary School

The Foundation conducted an introductory session at the school to present:

  • Who we are as an organization
  • Our mission and vision
  • Current WASH initiatives
  • Planned programs to support the school community

This engagement strengthened our relationship with school leadership and laid the groundwork for collaborative implementation of future WASH and community empowerment programs.

What’s Next

Formation of the WASH Committee

To enhance sustainability, accountability, and community ownership, we are establishing a local WASH Committee.

The committee will:

  • Ensure activities align with community needs and project objectives
  • Represent diverse community groups to promote inclusivity
  • Strengthen planning and organized implementation
  • Oversee proper use of funds and resource management
  • Serve as a bridge between the community and project staff
  • Track progress, identify challenges, and recommend improvements

This marks a significant step toward long-term sustainability, transparency, and community-led impact.

Conclusion

This quarter reflects meaningful progress in expanding access to clean water and strengthening community systems in Oloishorua. From borehole development and water quality assurance to school engagement and governance planning, the Ngao Foundation remains committed to delivering sustainable WASH solutions that improve health, dignity, and economic opportunity.

Most importantly, none of this would be possible without you. Your partnership is not just funding projects — it is restoring hope, protecting children, empowering families, and shaping a healthier future for entire communities.
