The project seeks to overcome barriers of the Somali women political participation and enhances the peacebuilding role of the Somali women. This is achieved by highlighting the indispensable role of the Somali women through various workshops, facilitating university symposiums in which are debated the role as well as challenges related to the peacebuilding capacity of the Somali women.
In spite, equality in men and women enshrined in Article 11 of the Provisional Somali Constitution, Somali women's participation and representation in reconciliation and peace process remains challenge. This is due to the persistence patriarchal cultural attitudes.
In order to overcome such challenges the proposed project will organize a number of community mobilization activities in which the links between peace and development including the importance of Somali women in participating national reconciliation conferences are highlighted. In addition, will facilitate a number of workshops in which violence and human right abuses including rape and GBV are highlighted. Also, the social and economic significance of empowering women will be highlighted.
The long term positive impact include transformed various community conflicts, increased local peace capacities and through enhanced women social and economic status.
