Cambridge Global Health Partnerships is very pleased and excited to share with you some great news: our partners at a major hospital in Kampala, Uganda, have purchased 800 litres of alcohol concentrate and 1,000 surgical masks. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, as well as other project funding, these significant supplies will make a real impact and improve the health of mothers and babies.
At 20,000 Ugandan shillings (roughly £4) per litre, alcohol concentrate is a comparatively expensive hand sanitiser ingredient. However, one litre of alcohol concentrate translates to over ten litres of sanitiser - this is why our donors' support is absolutely worth it and provides excellent value for money.
The local production of hand sanitiser, established in collaboration with Cambridge Global Health Partnerships, is a crucial component of infection prevention and control at our partner hospital. The pharmacy team follow WHO guidelines for sanitiser production and regularly refill dispensing stations for health workers and people coming to the hospital.
The project also enabled the purchase of 1,000 surgical masks for hospital staff. These simple masks are an effective, affordable way to protect against infections and are recommended to be worn during most procedures. Our team are looking at potential suppliers and costings for FFP3 respirators, which are recommended for certain high-risk procedures.
We are grateful for the generous donations received through GlobalGiving for the Kampala-Cambridge partnership. This funding is a huge boost to our efforts to improve hand hygiene and infection prevention and control in the context of maternal and neonatal care in Uganda. Thank you to our kind donors!
