Summary

This project will provide school supplies like school bags, notebooks, and stationery for 100 internally displaced economically disadvantaged primary school pupils whose education has been affected by the civil crisis that has plagued Cameroon English-speaking regions for four years now. The targeted pupils are those who have been able to relocate to Douala, one of the safe regions, and are currently going to school but face significant economic challenges and may likely drop out.

Challenge

According to the UNICEF, as of 2020 about 90% of primary schools and 77% of secondary schools in the two English-speaking regions of Cameroon because of the civil crisis leaving about 855,000 children out of school. About 150,000 of these children have been displaced from their homes, which increases their vulnerability. This project will affect 100 Internally displaced children who have moved to safer regions and are opportune to go to school are at risk of dropping out because of finances.

Solution

Inspire for Peace will provide 100 internally displaced economically disadvantaged primary school pupils with school bags, notebooks, and stationery to enable them to continue their education in the Academic year 2021/2022 and beyond. These school provisions will reduce the financial burden of sending them to school on their families and reduces the chances of them dropping out.

Long-Term Impact

This project will give 100 primary school pupils the chance to complete primary school education which is beneficial for their growth and development as individuals. Primary school education gives them the ability to express themselves in society, take advantage of opportunities to go to secondary school and sometimes get future jobs that require only a primary school leaving certificate. Subsequently, these pupils will be able to make an income to support their families and communities.
