This project will install 200 solar-powered streetlights across underserved rural villages of Aku , Umulolo, and Umuowa communities in Nigeria. These communities live in darkness due to poor and total absence of grid electricity, increasing insecurity, accidents, and limiting economic activity. Solar streetlights will improve safety, extend business hours, protect women and children, and create brighter, safer public spaces powered by clean, renewable energy.
Thousands of rural families live without reliable electricity. Streets remain dark at night, exposing residents, especially women and children, to crime, snake bites, and accidents. Small businesses shut down early, students struggle to study, and communities feel unsafe after sunset. Poor lighting also limits social and economic growth, trapping villages in poverty and insecurity.
We will install 200 high-quality solar streetlights in strategic locations including markets, schools, health centers, and community roads. Each light operates independently using solar panels and battery storage, requiring no grid connection. Community members will be trained for basic maintenance to ensure sustainability and long-term functionality.
By providing sustainable lighting, this project will improve safety, increase evening economic activity, reduce crime risks, and promote community development. Children can study longer, women can move safely, and businesses can thrive. The model will be replicated in additional villages, expanding clean energy access and transforming rural communities across Nigeria.
