By Candice Lelievre | Co-Development and Volunteer Coordinator
With the arrival of our new volunteers, we have started a new wave of collaboration with the Youth Association of Santa Clara. We had our first meeting with them on the 5th of October 2018. During this session we introduced the workshops which we will be organising for them over the course of the next academic year. These workshops were planned by the Youth Association and the old wave of Volunteers.
We have received funds to carry out six workshops in the coming academic year. The workshop areas include art and dance, audio-visual skills, a movie/documentary festival, personal development and ecotourism and sustainability. We will also be organising an intercultural exchange for the Youth Association with another Shipibo community.
The Youth Association has also evoked areas they wanted to include in the workshops. For this reason, we will also be organising an English and computer workshop. Further, in accordance with the feedback of the Association, the following amendments have been made to the workshops:
- The personal development workshop will include a focus on oral presentation skills and leadership.
- The audio-visual workshop will include an emphasis on communication strategies.
- The art and dance workshops will encompass ancestral songs, painting and sowing.
- The ecotourism and sustainability workshop will include a focus on climate change.
This meeting was productive and helped us to strengthen our bond with the Santa Clara Youth Association. We hope that this bond will only continue to grow as we continue working with the Association. Irake!
