In the months of February-March, an agreement between the Youth Association of Santa Clara (AJSC, Spanish acronym)* and Alianza Arkana gave its first fruits. It was a training to 5 young people of the Shipibo-Konibo community of Santa Clara, among them the current president of the association and the community leader.
The objective of this process emerged from other attempts to contribute to the strengthening of capacities and support tools for the AJSC. Together, we realized that there were very good initiatives to improve the community conditions of the families, but money and capacities were needed to transform ideas into actions. In this sense, Alianza Arkana obtained a small but enough financial support from the Global Greengrants fund to recruit a facilitator of these processes, our great friend David, who organized and executed the training, with our support.
The results were extremely satisfactory. But the pandemic did not allow us to continue with the pre-established deadlines and we had to stop the process. Nevertheless, a week ago we had a meeting with the current president of the AJSC and we agreed to continue with the project. Now, the idea is to train interested young people from the association so that later, with our support, they can design their own environmental project. The progress of this process depends a lot on how the young people organize themselves in the community and how much interest they take in this initiative. We are waiting for them to tell us this month who will be the young people who will get on this boat!
We are waiting for you to tell us this month who will be the young people who will get on this boat!
With your support we will achieve better results and also improve the quality of the workshops we give.
A big hug!
*The Youth Association of Santa Clara is an initiative that comes from the necessity for young people from the community of Santa Clara to strengthen their Shipibo identity, and to develop skills in order to become multi-sectoral change agents (health, environment, education, economy) in their own territory.
