Sofía is fifteen years old, she has always been a girl with dreams of becoming better. Her mother is the only one who works to support the family. She left her husband 10 years ago; for this reason Asociación Nuestros Ahijados started helping the children with scholarships, food, health care and a house building.
Despite the difficulties in El Salvador, they’ve been trying hard for them to reach their dreams as they would like. Sofía is in 10th grade and her brother, who is also receiving a scholarship, is in 8th grade. They are receiving a monthly support and at the beginning of this year they received a “School Supplies” bag.
The mother works as a baby sitter, this job is not very stable, she is only making $50.00 monthly, she also makes tortillas to sell even when this is not a big income. Their life conditions had improved thanks to the house that Asociación Nuestros Ahijados built for them, having a safe place to live since then.
Other of the benefits that she has had is a “Dental Treatment” that was paid by her Sponsor. She was suffering of a lot of pain because she had damaged all her teeth. Now she is doing good and does not feel pain anymore.
She is a brilliant student and helps her mother every day selling tortillas. They are very happy with all the support received from Asociación Nuestros Ahijados, since without it they wouldn’t be able to succeed in school.
