Melvin is a hardworking young man. He struggled during 2014 with a few of his classes and even had to attend summer school to make up the classes he had failed, however, after all of his hard work in summer school he was able to pass. The only person that helps Melvin, besides the God´s Child Project, is his mother. She works making tortillas to support Melvin and his brother.
The conditions of the house are fairly decent. The house is made of adobe and has a cement floor. They family has quite a few electrical appliances and two beds. Melvin’s mother also recently bought a stove so that she can work selling tortillas.
The God´s Child Project has provided the family with a lot of support by covering the costs of Melvin’s registration fees, school uniform and school supplies as well as giving the family rice and beans and a cleaning kit among other things to help with some of the family’s many needs. Melvin also received a scholarship based on his grades.
Melvin´s mother is the only bread-winner in the family since his father passed away from kidney failure. Since his death Melvin’s mother has looked out for her children’s wellbeing. She prefers to stay single taking care of her children and with the help of the Project she has been able to provide a better future for her children.
In general, the family is doing well. At times Melvin's mother is careless with her children but when they need her the most she is there to help them. The family is very thankful for the help that they receive each month from the God´s Child Project.
