An Education for Carmen & Her Siblings

By Kendell Martell | Director of Benefactor Services

Asociación Nuestros Ahijados discovered Carmen in a small village near Guazapa, El Salvador. We’re happy to introduce you to Carmen and announce that Carmen and her younger siblings are now receiving food, clothing, and an education through the help of our donors!

Carmen currently lives with her mother and five siblings in a small shack in a rural village. When their father abandoned the family several years ago, Carmen’s mother started working cleaning houses or doing whatever other work she could find at the time. Carmen’s older brother helps support the family by working in a legal office, however with their combined wages, the family still only survives on $200 a month. On this amount, Carmen and her younger siblings were not able to go to school or rely on having three full meals every day.

Thanks to generous donations that help run the Asociación Nuestros Ahijados del Salvador program, Carmen and her siblings are now able to receive the education that Carmen’s mother couldn’t afford otherwise – giving them all hope for a brighter future. Most importantly, Carmen’s family is also currently receiving nutritious food that will allow the children to fully focus on their studies in this program, and not their hungry bellies.

Carmen’s mother is grateful to the Asociación Nuestros Ahijados program and donors since she did not have the opportunity to attend school when she was younger. She was desperate to give her children access to school and nutritious food so that they didn’t have to suffer the same hardships when they grow up that she has been facing due her lack of education.

Not only has the Asociación Nustros Ahijados del Salvador provided Carmen and her siblings with an education, but thanks to donations the project has also been able to provide the family with all of the necessary school supplies, as well as new clothes and shoes for school. With the help of donors, Carmen and her siblings will also now have access to scholarships to continue their education after High School if they choose to attend University. This is very important in a country like El Salvador that has very few employment opportunities.

Since Carmen’s family has joined the program their lives have greatly improved. The God’s Child Project wants to thank those who have donated to the El Salvador project and forever changed the lives of this family! Carmen now looks forward to school every day and has become very motivated to continue her education. Carmen is now able to go to school with the hope of being someone when she grows up. Currently, her dream is to be a teacher so that she can teach all of the children of El Salvador. Since Carmen is now one of the best performing students in her school we know that she will go far.
