Project Report | Dec 27, 2011
A special HAF community project that powerfully combines economic, health and environmental benefits

By Dr. Yossef Ben-Meir | President of the High Atlas Foundation

Tifnoute Valley: Trees & terracing stops erosion
Tifnoute Valley: Trees & terracing stops erosion

This community project diverts a mountain spring (located at 3500 meters elevation) that emits approximately 100 liters per minutes during the summer months, away from rushing straight into the valley's robust river, and instead along the decending summit of dangerously eroding mountains that are along the same valley.  Running the water along the summit will enable building this proposed system that will pressure/drip irrigate 10,000 walnut and cherry trees (planted on agricultural terraces), and provide clean drinking water for the involved 14 villages (3500 people).  The combines economic, health, and environmental benefits of this project make it transformational for its beneficiries.

HAF is happy to report that the community can provide in-kind the 10,000 trees (valued at $20,000) from their own tree nurseries (a HAF project funded earlier of on GlobalGiving that is now on-going).  Funds raised so far for this irrigation/clean drinking water project on GlobalGiving helps to fund in-part the hydrology assessment now needed. Let's together make this special project happen.
