Natural disasters always hit the poorest people the hardest. Lack of capital makes it impossible for many to prepare for poor harvests. The rains in Monze this year have been woefully inadequate and the harvest has been very poor. Maize is the staple diet, but prices have doubled in recent weeks. This puts enormous pressure on poor families who will be forced to go hungry on many days. It also makes it difficult for Pizz School to continue to provide adequate daily lunches for the children, many of whom arrive at school hungry and may not get a meal when they return home.
HATW has already increased funding from our lunchbox scheme, but the need is set to grow as time goes on. We are relying on your kindness and generosity to ensure the children can eat and are therefore able to learn, thus improving their future prospects and hopefully breaking the cycle of poverty. Please give what you can, the daily meal is a simple one, but it means the world to hungry children.
