HATW continues to support the provision of a hot school lunch to children at the Pizz project. We know how beneficial this scheme is and how much it helps the children to stay in school and want to be there.
HATW and the local team is always looking at ways to improve provision, trying to think of new initiatives to make the meal that is provided more nutritious and tastier. At the school they have recently put in a fishpond and the idea is for this to become income generating. Fish will be grown locally and then sold. Some of these fish will be used to feed the children and vary the diet of maize and mealie meal.
Tomatoes are also grown on site, and this can provide a tasty relish to accompany the lunches as well as being sold to buy the maize. Local conversations to grow more varied crops to enhance the lunches is ongoing.
Interestingly, when the students move to local schools for their secondary education, many of them return to Pizz asking for some food, as this is not provided at local schools. It is always hard to turn away hungry children.
HATW is delighted to support this scheme that is making such a positive difference. Thank you for your continued support in making sure these children have full tummies!
