Big plans for Jambiani Center

By Morgan Domijan | Fundraising Coordinator

Jambiani Center has been such a big hit over the past couple months! As mentioned in our last report, there have been several updates to the center which included Eco bricking and even a couple new signs to advertise the center.

In the month of January alone, there were 93 students who attended Adult Literacy Classes at Jambiani Center. This is solid proof the center has brought in a large amount of learners of all different levels to improve their English and acheive their goal of employment. Additionally, there was a large graduation celebration in February for a large group completing their final exams!

However, after reviewing the program and where students are after they graduate Adult Literacy Classes, we realized some students could not find employment. Thus, we have created even bigger plans for Jambiani Center!

We are still fundraising to now add electricity to the center which will then power a Computer Center!! Access to electricity in Zanzibar is limited for the majority of the population, particularly in coastal communities like Jambiani. Having access to electricity at our education center will enable us to start the computer literacy program.

Further, a majortiy of adults in Zanzibar have never seen or even touched a computer. However, as the tourist industry is becoming Zanzibar's largest employment sector, computer skills, as well as speaking English, are vital in gaining a job. Access to computers will also empower the education program to grow by giving us the opportunity to widen our teaching resources and additional classes we can offer. Finally, the access to electricity will empower our program to build a new water soruces, leading into our second fundraising phase!

African Impact, African Impact Foundation and the students of Jambiani Center are beyond excited to start this next phase to impact and empower even a larger reach of learners in Jambiani. We truly believe this is an increidble next step for the community of Jambiani and are eager to watch it grow.

All of this would not be possible without your continous support. Please do share the great update with friends and family as your influence is the greatest impact.

Also, please do not forget to follow our journey on Facebook or get in touch with us for any ideas, questions or just to say hi!
