Peace Winds is one of the leading organizations in Japan conducting emergency disaster response as well as long-term disaster recovery activities. It is currently accepting donations to respond to the January 1, 2024, earthquake in Ishikawa, Japan as well as for its broader disaster preparedness work.
Japan is one of the world's most disaster prone countries, and it needs professional responders with the capacity to rapidly dispatch to conduct search and rescue, provide emergency medical care, and support the needs of disaster survivors. In the latest disaster, a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck Ishikawa Prefecture's Noto Peninsula on January 1, 2024, destroying homes and buildings and severing transportation links.
Peace Winds dispatched its ARROWS disaster response team of doctors, nurses, search-and-rescue staff, and other professionals to the disaster zone. Immediate aid included search-and-rescue efforts and emergency medical support. As the situation progresses, Peace Winds plans to provide mid- and long-term support, including ongoing medical and mental health care, distribution of essential supplies, support for evacuees, and more long-term projects to help affected communities rebuild.
Natural disasters are only going to continue to strike Japan, and Peace Winds knows the importance of staying prepared. Peace Winds teams in Japan also offer preparedness programs, including disaster response trainings, webinars and articles about how to best prepare, and community-centered activities where adults and children can come together to share their knowledge and experience in creative ways.
