Peace Winds is also supporting Minamisanriku fishing cooperatives, the resource and management center of the fishing community. With your support Peace Winds is revitalizing the fishing industry.
The March 2011 tsunami in Japan devastated the Tohoku fishing industry, the lifeblood of the region. Fishing remains the most important industry in Tohoku, yet many fishing families lack the resources to procure, process, and distribute seafood. Fishing families are struggling to regain their livelihoods. Production remains well below pre-tsunami levels, leaving the fishing industry far from recovery.
This project is restoring the livelihoods of 500 fishing families in northeast Japan. Working with the fishing cooperatives, PWA is providing seasonal fishing equipment - rods, hooks, paddles. PWA also provides operational support to the two fishing cooperatives.
This project restores the livelihoods of fishing families and revitalizes local economies. The Tohoku region depends on the recovery of the fishing industry. Through support to fishing cooperatives and fishermen, PWA is restoring the livelihoods of fishing families.
