7.5% ... is the rate of employment for disabled adults in Romania, the country where more than a third of the population is at risk of poverty or social exclusion. The project will build 2 occupational therapy workshops where at least 50 mentally disabled people will create cosmetic products (bath bombs, soaps, etc.). This will teach them numerous skills required to find and keep an actual job, such as behavioral skills, communication, teamwork and creative thinking.
According to the County Employment Agency: "only seven persons with disabilities have been employed since mid-last year (2019) in Brasov, Romania". Another official statement from the Social Assistance Department: "out of 17,000 adults with disabilities who are registered, only 1,300 currently have a job". The rate of employment of adults with disabilities in Romania is at an extreme low: 7.5%. The vulnerable group is not accepted due to their lack of basic skills required to succeed in a job.
The project will create occupational therapy workshops that will simulate a work environment. The workshops will be placed in day/residential centers for adults with mental disabilities. This way we ensure maximum participation and impact for the targeted beneficiaries. The mentally disabled adults will create handmade cosmetic products that will be donated to the community to increase awareness about their work capabilities. Additionally, the adults will greatly develop social and work skills.
1. A minimum of 50 mentally disabled adults will develop skills required in the work environment - 2. At least 5 beneficiaries will be employed locally - 3. At least 200 handmade products will be donated in the community to raise awareness - 4. At least 5000 people will indirectly benefit from the project thru means of online and offline marketing, by learning that the mental disabled can create good quality products
