For us as well as everyone else, the Covid lockdowns and restricted movement and travel meant the almost complete end of our economic development projects. Products meant for outlets which catered to tourists and even local traffic faltered and indeed failed. It was only through the ongoing donations that allowed us to subsidize the different projects to keep some of our women engaged at a minimal level. Without which some of these women who live on the constant edge of survival would have certainly failed as well.
Post Covid things here in Eswatini are only now beginning to return to a kind of pre-Covid normal. Tourists are again traveling into the country and sales of the sewn products is again picking up. Our retail shop approaches break even and placement of our products in two Fair Trade shops means more sales. We can again hire someone to be our in-community coordinator to engage directly with women and families in our communities to begin cracking marula pits again for raw nuts and oil. The women from the community who work at the Kudvumisa Livivane (Butterly) Guesthouse are seeing more tourists and travelers which means more hours and more income.
Things are looking up and we look forward to expanding the women and families we help with a livable income!
