Why $1.90? Millions of people are living in extreme poverty on $1.90/day or less. Before 2020, global poverty was on the decline, but COVID-19 unraveled years of progress and caused extreme global poverty to rise for the first time in over 20 years. 100 million more people are living in extreme poverty now than before the pandemic began.
Many of the world's poorest countries rely on agriculture as their main industry, and they eat seasonally according to their harvest. This means when there is no harvest, there is often no food. The Horn of Africa is in the grips of a severe drought after three rainy seasons have failed to materialize. Imagine your entire income being dependent not on your hard work or experience but on the weather. Imagine three years of income wiped out because it didn't rain.
Together, we can work to restore what the severe drought has stolen. The war on extreme poverty desperately needs our collective voice to call for change. You can make an impact by raising awareness of extreme poverty and its impact on global hunger.
We desire to be good stewards of your donation, and when we receive more contributions for a given fund than we can use, we apply those funds to meet similar pressing needs. Contributions are solicited with the understanding that Cico Uganda in partnership with GlobalGiving International has control over the use of all donated funds. At least 80% of your gift will go to programs that directly benefit our children's' ministry, babies, and students.
