Work alongside community-based rehabilitation volunteers, healthcare providers and organizations of people with disabilities to provide accessible rehabilitation care to people with disabilities and injuries. Hundreds of medical workers will be trained in assessing and treating rehabilitation needs. Thousands of Jordanians and Syrian refugees will receive tailored physical therapy treatment and mobility aids including prosthetics, braces, crutches, wheelchairs and more.
Near 700,000 Syrian refugees are living in Jordan. In 2018, a survey conducted in Jordan by HI and IMMAP showed that 22.9% of Syrian refugees-more than 140,000 individuals-have disabilities. People with disabilities experience discrimination and extreme hardship and lack access to quality rehabilitation care. Some of these activities are at risk due to U.S. foreign aid funding cuts.
This project will work to enhance the capacity and quality of healthcare providers to offer comprehensive rehabilitation care to people with disabilities, including children with signs of developmental delays. Children and adults with injuries or disabilities will receive tailored treatment through at-home and center-based rehabilitation services.
More than 3,000 children and adults will receive rehabilitation care and necessary mobility aids. Hundreds of local healthcare professionals will be trained in best practices to identify and assess needs, and provide referrals and conduct accessible and inclusive rehabilitation care.
