Strengthening Schools and Supporting Futures in Lonyuduk

By IsraAID Staff | IsraAID Kenya

In Turkana County, where access to safe water and basic services remains limited, IsraAID Kenya continues to support communities in strengthening essential systems within schools and beyond.

At Lonyuduk Primary School, IsraAID is supporting improvements in water access, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion - working closely with students and teachers to create a safer, healthier learning environment. Students themselves have played a key role through school WASH Clubs, helping to maintain facilities and promote good hygiene practices among their peers.

These efforts were recently recognized when Lonyuduk Primary School achieved the highest overall performance in a WASH assessment conducted across seven schools in Kakuma and Kalobeyei. The school was awarded a trophy for its achievement, while 40 WASH Club members received medals in recognition of their leadership and commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy school environment.

At the same time, gaps remain - particularly around consistent hygiene practices - highlighting the need for continued training and support. IsraAID is working with teachers and students to build these habits and ensure that improvements in water and sanitation are sustained over time.

Beyond the school, IsraAID is also supporting adolescent girls and teenage mothers in Lonyuduk through a dedicated Adolescent Friendly Space. Here, participants receive psychosocial support alongside practical skills training, helping them rebuild confidence and develop sustainable sources of income. In particular, many participants have chosen to pursue goat rearing, leading the path toward greater financial ndependence and stability.

IsraAID remains committed to supporting students and young mothers in Lonyuduk. Thank you for making this possible and for continuing to stand with vulnerable communities in Kenya.
