In Kakuma Refugee Camp, where many women continue to face the challenges of displacement, trauma, and economic hardship, IsraAID Kenya is working to strengthen access to mental health support and create safe spaces for communities to heal and rebuild.
In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, IsraAID Kenya, in collaboration with local and international partners, hosted a Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Camp for women refugees in Kakuma. The camp provided a safe and inclusive environment where participants could openly discuss mental health, emotional wellbeing, and suicide awareness.
Through guided discussions, psychosocial support activities, and shared experiences, women were encouraged to break the stigma surrounding mental health and recognize the importance of seeking support when facing emotional challenges. The sessions also focused on strengthening community-based support systems, reminding participants that they are not alone and that healing is possible.
For many women living in displacement, the pressures of daily life can have a significant impact on their wellbeing. By creating spaces for connection, reflection, and open conversation, IsraAID is helping women build resilience, strengthen relationships, and access the support they need.
“Mental health matters, and seeking support is a sign of strength,” shared one participant.
IsraAID Kenya remains committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of vulnerable communities in Kakuma. Thank you for making this work possible and for continuing to stand with refugees and displaced communities in Kenya.
