2021 saw the peak of the second wave of Covid-19 infections in India and Nepal, with recorded cases reaching more than 400,000 per day. Today the economic and social impact of lockdown continues to affect the most marginalized communities the most, who already live a precarious 'hand to mouth' existence. We address the needs of struggling communities and provide sustainable and impactful recovery aid. They will need your support for many years to come. Your donations can rebuild lives.
Social stigma is magnified in times of crisis, making it much harder for excluded communities to access the goods and healthcare they need. Conditions in slums and poverty stricken areas are prime for the spread of disease. These communities struggled to have any quality of life during multiple lockdowns. Families lost their livelihoods, violence towards women increased, school closures meant marginalised children have to start again, particularly girls who have fought hard to be at school.
Our partners are providing essential recovery and long term support for those who have been the most severely affected. This is hearing the community's needs and taking action. We are supporting young girls to reestablish their education in schools, unemployed families to access secure and sustainable livelihoods and empowering women to gain legal protection and justice. Overall, building resilience to future Covid waves through health awareness and access to healthcare resources.
Circumstances change daily and resources for marginalised communities become more scarce. We are committed to developing long-term, sustainable support for our partners through this crisis. Initially, meeting survival needs will support safety and health. In the long-term, we are supporting communities back into education and sustainable livelihoods. In what is a much changed, desperate landscape, this emergency response continues to be absolutely vital.
