Juba City, the capital of South Sudan (the newest nation), is the most expensive city in the world. It is also one with the least service delivery. Yet due to unending war and inequality, the population of the city keeps rising. Girls face all kinds of abuse. This project will keep girls in school, provide them with nutritious meals, and give them mentoring on much-needed life skills to stay focused. SSGID will organize, mentor, coach, train, and provide girls with nutritious meals in school.
Endless war and poverty have forced teenage girls (ages 10-13) into Juba City South Sudan to fight for life. Homeless and hungry, these risk early marriage, gender violence, trafficking, and no future. This project offers a lifeline to 100 girls in primary school with food, a bar of soap, and period pad support to keep them learning, safe, and empowered to continue in school. These are only a few of the girls who are in such dire need. The government has no social support system for such girls.
SSGID provides (a) three nutritious meals, per day, (b) one bar of soap, and (c) a packet of period pads per month to 100 teenage girls. The girl's mothers are trained in proper nutrition and good childcare skills. In addition, the mothers are taught to share their new knowledge with their immediate communities to realize a ripple effect. SSGID provides life skills training to the girls to protect and develop their minds from exploitation, abuse, and lack of focus. Local leaders are trained.
SSGID will educate and train 100 teenage girls, their families, and leaders. The girls get healthy meals, hygiene supplies, and life skills training leading to their long-term health, well-being, and increased school completion. Their mothers will learn to nourish families and share knowledge with their neighbours leading to wider community health, well-being, and peace. Leaders get trained too which builds a healthier, stronger, law-abiding community that supports girls but not abuses them.
