Executive Summary & Status Update
The South Sudan Grassroots Initiative for Development (SSGID) is pleased to share a progress update for our GlobalGiving project, "Keep 100 Girls in School in Juba City Using Meals."
During this reporting period, SSGID's core activity of supporting 100 vulnerable schoolgirls in Juba City with daily nutritious meals remains actively ongoing. As we wrap up current tracking progress and complete full field assessments, a detailed narrative report will be shared during the month of November 2026.
Community Impact & Emerging Need
The implementation of daily school meals has created a powerful ripple effect across the community. Food security directly impacts access to education, and this initiative has become a beacon of stability for young girls who face extreme economic hardship.
However, the overwhelming success of the program has highlighted a growing demand. School administrators report a significant surge in enrollment and attendance, with scores of additional vulnerable girls flocking to the school each day in search of both an education and nutritional support. For many of these young learners, the meal provided through this program represents their primary source of solid nourishment for the day.
A Story from the Field: Nourishing Hope in Juba
"When a child comes to school on an empty stomach, the classroom is a place of endurance, not learning. Today, it has become a place of opportunity."
Every morning in Juba, girls who previously faced the choice between staying home to search for food or walking to school hungry now arrive eager to learn. Before this initiative, absenteeism among female students was rising steeply due to household economic strain and household duties.
Since the meal distribution began, classroom engagement has transformed dramatically. Teachers report higher attendance, improved focus, and renewed enthusiasm during lessons. One young participant shared that having a reliable lunch at school not only gives her the energy to stay through afternoon classes, but also relieves her family of a heavy burden at home, allowing her parents to prioritize keeping her enrolled rather than pulling her out for informal labor.
Organizational Commitment & Future Outlook
As a conflict-sensitive organization strictly committed to international humanitarian principles—including impartiality, neutrality, and humanity SSGID operates with full awareness of the social dynamics and high levels of vulnerability within the community.
To address the growing number of young girls currently seeking food and educational support at the school, SSGID is actively mobilizing resources and fundraising. Our goal is to scale up capacity and officially expand our target reach to include more vulnerable girls during the next reporting period.
We extend our deep gratitude to our donors and the GlobalGiving community for making this life-changing support possible. Your continued partnership ensures that food insecurity does not stand between a girl and her right to an education.
With grateful heart and thanksgiving to GlobalGiving donors
