Summary

In rural Nigerian schools, many girls miss class during their periods due to lack of pads. Some use unsafe alternatives or skip school entirely. This project will set up pad banks in schools to supply 1,000 girls with monthly pads. Regular access to menstrual care will reduce missed school days, help girls stay enrolled, and ease the burden on families who cannot afford basic supplies.

Challenge

Many girls in rural Nigeria miss school during menstruation because they cannot afford pads. Some use rags, tissue, or stay home to avoid shame. This leads to poor attendance, loss of focus, and in some cases, permanent withdrawal from school. It is a common reason girls fall behind in their studies or drop out altogether.

Solution

Pad banks will be established in rural schools and stocked monthly. Girls will have access to free pads throughout the school year. This will help reduce absenteeism during periods. Schools will also offer simple information sessions on safe menstrual care to help girls feel more confident and supported.

Long-Term Impact

Regular pad supply can help girls stay in school, complete their education, and avoid setbacks linked to menstruation. With the pad banks in place, schools will be better prepared to support their female students. This can gradually reduce school dropout caused by period-related challenges and support learning for girls from low-income families.
