Summary

The Branch Foundation in collaboration with The Cambodian Center for the Protection of Children's Rights (CCPCR) plan to provide access to education in a safe environment for 28 girls in Phnom Penh who are survivors of sex-trafficking and/or other forms of abuse. Note: The funding target for this project has been amended due to a combination of committed funding efforts from other sources, altered project funding priorities and budgeting allowing money to go further.

Challenge

Given the extreme poverty many people face in Cambodia, women and children are often left vulnerable to abuse such as sex trafficking. This leads them onto a dark path of low self esteem, lack of empowerment and opportunities, and severe health risks. There are currently 28 abuse survivors at the Cambodian Center for the Protection of Children's Rights (CCPCR) who need assistance to stay in school, otherwise they are at risk of returning to a life of uncertainty and instability.

Solution

The Branch Foundation and CCPCR both strongly believe in the power of education to turn lives around for the better. We hope that with your help we can provide safety, education and greater opportunities for the 28 girls. With their literacy and numeracy skills developed, and their confidence and emotional strength boosted, they will be much better placed to find secure alternative employment, thus increasing their chances of living a dignified life away from vulnerabilities.

Long-Term Impact

Women are a powerful, yet vulnerable and largely untapped human resource in Khmer society. This project will target the most vulnerable of female groups in Cambodian society. The focus is to work towards providing opportunities, skills and empowerment. This in turn will allow them to break the cycle of negativity and provide a better life for them, as well as their children, in the future.
