Benjamin age 10 was born into poverty in Kenya with no hope of a worthwhile education. Thanks to Elimu Resource Centre he now gets all the textbooks, curriculum and help he needs to escape poverty. The Centre welcomes over 15,000 student visits from children each year. Benjamin's options without an education include dangerous ones like sex tourism (the dark side of the biggest local industry) or getting tangled up with drugs to just staying stuck in joblessness and squalor. Not what you'd want for your child or any other. Children like Benjamin often don't make it to school at all, and even if they do, text books and work-books are scarce and there's no technology to use at all, in the long run leaving them completely unprepared for the workplace.
The Elimu Resource Centre fills the gap providing digital resources, the curriculum, text books and workbooks and the support of the Elimu team of staff and volunteers. The children come in their droves because they know it will make the difference: In 2019 250 children a day, many of whom had never touched a text-book or a computer used the Resource Centre in their school holidays. Each year the Centre hosts over 15,000 visits and the demand is increasing daily.
The Elimu Resource Centre helps the children throughout their school years and beyond, with outreach programmes as well, providing the community with a well-prepared workforce.
