BREAKING THE SILENCE AROUND MENSTRUATION

By Othieno Gerald | Project Leader

Menstrual stigma continues to affect the education and well-being of countless girls in rural Uganda. Many girls face embarrassment, isolation, and absenteeism due to a lack of sanitary products and accurate information. Thanks to your support, we are making significant progress in breaking these barriers.

Over the reporting period, we provided menstrual hygiene kits and facilitated educational workshops in schools and communities. These workshops addressed menstrual health management, personal hygiene, and confidence-building. Girls were encouraged to share experiences, ask questions, and support one another in a safe environment.

Teachers have observed positive changes among participants. Girls are demonstrating greater confidence, improved attendance, and increased engagement in school activities. Several schools have also established peer support groups where students continue discussing menstrual health and supporting fellow learners.

The project has reached beyond the girls themselves. Parents, teachers, and community leaders participated in awareness sessions aimed at reducing misconceptions and promoting supportive attitudes toward menstruation. This broader engagement is helping create an environment where girls feel respected and understood.

Many beneficiaries reported feeling empowered by the knowledge they gained and relieved to have access to reliable menstrual products. By reducing stigma and providing practical solutions, the project is helping girls stay focused on their studies and future goals.

Your partnership is creating lasting change and ensuring that menstruation does not stand in the way of education and opportunity.
