KEEPING OUR HOSPITAL OPEN TO SAVE MORE LIVES

By Jane Nakasagga | Project Leader

We would like to appreciate all our beloved donors for the continous support towards this project. Without you we would not be able to save and provide our patients with the best treatment.

In comparison to the previous three months, we have registered an increase in the number of patients  in most of the departments like in OPD, general consultation, adult consultation, maternity, total admission and transfusion.

I would also like to take this opportunity to inform you that last month we opened up a free sickle cell clinic where we give out free pop corn to every sickle cell patient and we have been able to save a number of children who come in painful crisis though we are facing a challenge in transportation of the sick children from their homes to the hospital since the country is in the 2nd lockdown wave of covid 19 where inter district crossing is banned by the government.

Last week we also organised a blood donation camp at our hospital where we gave out bars of soaps, soft drinks and biscuits to all who donated blood and this was through blood group bank to whom we handed over the items.this costed us some money but it helped us a lot for we are in lockdown where we are in scarcity of blood in the region and we are driving miles and miles to get it from the city and still getting it is a hustle and we sometimes have to pay in some bribe because we really need it because receive so many anaemic patients who needs transfusion.

We are glad to inform you that our maternity patients are increasing vividly as compared to previous months. With that, we were able to recruit 2 new medical officers who are attending to our maternity mothers. However, we are facing a challenge of space, challenge of piped water which is on and off. This hinders effective sanitation and Hygiene.

Lack of Isolation room for septic patients and gynecological ward for the mothers who have lost their pregnancies. We therefore look forward to the expansion of the maternity ward soon.
