Whispers Children’s Hospital continues to bring hope to vulnerable children and mothers in our community. Every day, we receive little ones battling malaria, severe anemia, malnutrition, accidents, and chronic conditions like sickle cell disease — along with mothers seeking safe and dignified delivery care. Many of them arrive with no ability to pay, yet they deserve life, healing, and love. Because of your support, we are able to say yes to them.

Malaria remains the biggest health challenge among children we serve. In the past year, we treated over 3,200 malaria cases, with 640 needing admission due to severe complications such as convulsions and life-threatening anemia. Through timely treatment and strengthened emergency care, we have reduced our mortality rate from 8% to 2.3% — a result made possible by your generosity.

Our free sickle cell clinic is a lifeline for over 420 children who depend on us for monthly reviews, lab monitoring, crisis management, and free essential medication. Together with the Blood Bank, we have provided over 850 blood transfusions to critically ill children. Many arrive on the brink of death — but they leave with new strength and renewed hope, at no cost to their families.

The nutrition clinic continues to help children recovering from severe malnutrition. 260 children have been enrolled this year, with more than 1,100 follow-up visits completed. Through therapeutic feeding, supplements, and parental counselling, we are supporting long-term recovery and preventing relapse.

We are also committed to safe motherhood. Many women come to us without access to antenatal care or emergency delivery services. Because of your kindness, we provide safe deliveries, obstetric emergencies, medication, and newborn care — all free of charge. High-risk mothers who could have lost their babies are going home with healthy infants in their arms.

Whispers responds to emergencies 24/7, free of cost. One example is Josiah, a young boy involved in a tragic road accident. He arrived critically injured and required emergency care, imaging, surgery, and medication. Because you gave, Josiah is alive today.

As needs increase, costs continue to rise — yet most families can only afford little or nothing at all. Your support keeps our doors open, our oxygen flowing, our pharmacy stocked, our clinicians ready, and our ambulances running. Every child we save and every mother we protect is a testimony to your compassion.

Because of you, hundreds of children were healed, mothers were safely delivered, and families walked away with hope instead of heartbreak. At Whispers Magical Children’s Hospital and Maternity, these past three months have been filled with challenges — but also countless miracles made possible through your generosity.

In the past three months, we have saved over 1500 lives. That number includes 800 children and guardians who received general consultations, 150 adults who came to us when they had no other place to turn, and 90 mothers who delivered safely with dignity and care. We performed 13 minor surgeries, provided 216 life-saving blood transfusions, and ensured that no one in critical condition was turned away — no matter their financial situation.

But beyond the numbers are real stories. A child with sickle cell crisis came in barely able to walk, in severe pain, with worried parents by their side. We treated her, gave her blood, medication, and close monitoring. She went home stable and smiling. In just three months, we cared for 684 children with sickle cell disease, a number that speaks to how common — and how urgent — this condition is in our region.

We also treated 279 cases of severe anaemia, 169 malaria infections, 210 cases of bacteraemia, 128 children with malnutrition, and 33 patients with tuberculosis. For many of these patients, Whispers was their only option. Our free Sickle Cell, TB, and Nutrition clinics have remained vital — often the only consistent and accessible care for children living with chronic illness.

Through our partnerships with ICEA, GA Insurance, APA, CIC, and National Water and Sewerage Cooperation, we are slowly bridging the gap between charity care and sustainable, inclusive healthcare. Families who can access insurance now receive high-quality services at Whispers, while those who cannot still receive the same care — completely free — because of your generosity.
