Offering an array of educational and social programs, we aim for TEGV locations to be colorful, welcoming spaces in which our research-backed volunteer-led programs empower young children in school and life. Our Adana Suleyman Ozgenturk Activity Location serves over 1400 children/year, and we are currently seeking support to do some badly needed renovations. Due to logistical & efficiency factors, we will be doing the full project at once after reaching the target level of donations.
The Ozgenturk Activity Location serves a disadvantaged community, with low socio-economic levels; large family sizes; low educational attainment; and limited access to social services, among other challenges. As with all TEGV activity locations, Ozgenturk provides a rich set of educational and social programs for kids, strengthened further by the children's interaction with the big 'brothers' and 'sisters' that volunteer. Currently, the Ozgenturk location is in need of renovation.
TEGV's model is based on child-centered programs; taught by qualified volunteers; in colorful, inviting and safe activity locations that inspire and invite kids into learning. The project will enable the location to better deliver its services (details in the attached budget document). We aim for all our locations to bring the best in classroom design and resources to disadvantaged communities thus contributing to equal access and opportunity. The location also serves family & the community.
Because the Ozgenturk location is a historical building, the renovations will ensure long-term viability of the structure, directly supporting TEGV's ability to continue working in the location. Further, renovated learning and communal spaces will have long-term impact on the location's ability to best deliver TEGV's educational programs, which often require unique room designs and supplies. The improvements enhance TEGV's ability to give children from disadvantaged communities a safe haven.
