Kids Saving the Rainforest runs a Rescue Center with a wildlife vet clinic, which treats and rehabilitates wounded, sick and abandoned rainforest animals. The team works with professional staff & volunteers to provide state of the art care for approximately 200 rescued animals yearly. Without this center, most of these animals would not survive! Many thanks to Global Giving for their matching donation programs and featuring us here, as we work towards raising funds to improve our rescue center!
Our wildlife clinic & rescue center aims to restore health, rehabilitate, and release injured and displaced animals back to the wild. Tragically, many animals are injured or orphaned due to human-related causes and the only way to help is with human intervention. The most common causes for rescues are electrocution injuries, car strikes, and issues related to the illegal pet trade or loose cats and dogs. Many come in with grave injuries, weak condition or are orphaned when their mothers die.
Our Clinic has a full-time Wildlife Vet and Vet Tech offering excellent care, along with a Biologist and excellent support staff. We have a wildlife ambulance, so we can go where needed to help an animal and sometimes receive confiscated animals directly from a government entity. Over the years, we have worked with an enormous # of different animals such monkeys, parrots, macaws, toucans, wildcats, kinkajous, coati, and many more, (including sloths)!
We aim to not only protect wildlife from getting hurt in the first place with our wildlife bridges, reforestation and education campaigns, but also to save and help the animals that do get hurt and then release them back into the wild. Our center is extremely effective at successfully releasing healthy animals back into the wild, with an average 55% release rate, high above the norm. This work has helped recover species that were endangered like the "Titi" Squirrel Monkeys.
